1st Class: Vintage Electronics Pickers 101
Presented by Bruce Phillips, starting at 7:00 AM in the Tailgating area

Join Bruce Phillips for Vintage Electronics Pickers 101 at Fall Brookline 2018. The Picker’s motto is “You Snooze- You Loose”, so be there by 7:00 AM and be ready to move quickly during this NEARC/NEVEC Training Session.

Pickin’ at Brookline is a lot different than that show you watch on TV. You have a lot of “competition” at Brookline, and the best stuff goes in the early hours. Be ready to learn about making fast- good decisions, what to look for, what to skip over, the etiquette of picking, how to “dicker”, and just have some early morning fun meeting the Sellers at Brookline.

Please remember that starting with 2018 Fall Brookline, a $5 admission fee will be charged entering the outside Tailgating area prior to 10 am. The admission fee covers your entry into the Inside Hall area also. We’ll pick the Tailgate area from 7:00 to 7:30 AM, and then storm the inside sellers from 7:30 – 8:00 AM.

2nd Class (Introductory Level): What to do When a Re-capped Radio Doesn't Work
Presented by Jim Buliszak, BS/MSEE, starting at ~12:15 PM inside the hall

This training session will present how a 5-tube superheterodyne receiver works, first from a block diagram description, then from the more detailed radio schematic. A sample radio will be used to illustrate components identified in the schematic. Troubleshooting using both block diagrams and a schematic will demonstrate how to identify the faulty stage and locate the defective component. These techniques are the foundation of radio repair. You can fix it if you know how it works!

3rd Class (Advanced Level): Sweep Alignment of a Receiver
Presented by Ross Hochstrasser, starting at ~12:15 PM inside the hall

Ross will demonstrate methods for  sweep alignment of a communications receiver. He will discuss the benefits of doing a sweep alignment and demonstrate the procedure using a sweep  generator and oscilloscope, and if there is time, using the sweep generator and spectrum analyzer. He will perform the alignment on an RCA AR-88 or CR-88. Some of the high end receivers offered by Hammarlund, Racal and RCA recommended this type of IF alignment for proper bandwidth and audio response.
